Expanding Our Possibilities

Today we’re committed to the same values and objectives solidified by the founding GWA Board of Trustees in 1969: a quality education in a college preparatory environment. From our humble beginnings in Good Hope, George Walton Academy has grown from a few modest buildings on leased property to a beautiful, wooded campus on 60 acres in the heart of Monroe. GWA opened with 132 initial students; we now welcome almost 800 students from seven different counties.

But it’s not just about the numbers. As we respond to the changing physical needs of our programs, curriculum and student population, GWA remains dedicated to expanding the scope and reach of its mission.

Our Commitment

We’re committed to developing each child’s passions and strengths through academics, athletics and the arts. However, we understand that an excellent education today is more nuanced than a list of subjects or extracurricular offerings; it’s also about providing global perspectives in the classroom and an integrated experience for every student that extends beyond the normal school day.

With an emphasis on Judeo-Christian values, our students, guided by an exceptional faculty and staff, develop into young men and women who are foundationally equipped to engage as servant leaders. Upon graduating, GWA students are not only prepared to excel in higher education; they’re also ready to make meaningful and lasting contributions to their local, national and global communities.

Mission:

George Walton Academy provides challenging instruction, engaging experiences, and global perspectives designed to inspire lives of intellectual curiosity, integrity, and purpose.

We Believe…

In Judeo-Christian values, while respecting the heritage and beliefs of others.

In fostering a welcoming and inclusive community where students feel safe to discover and explore their interests and talents.

Each student is an individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual gifts and abilities.

Education should be relevant, engaging, and designed to equip each student to excel in college and beyond.

In fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, imagination, and creativity.

That promoting positive relationships and mutual respect is a responsibility of every individual.

Students should be accountable, learn to self-advocate, and take personal responsibility for their work, actions, and educational development.

The Foundation of a GWA Education

A challenging academic program lies at the heart of what we do.

We challenge you to find a school in the surrounding area that can match our students’ academic outcomes, level of college preparedness, and the confidence and poise that comes with intensive scholastic study in a variety of content areas. A Complete Picture of Success

From the core subjects to our wide array of elective offerings, George Walton Academy’s approach to academics aims to equip each student with the tools for success.

We realize that success comes in many forms, and that’s why academic rigor is just the beginning.

Alongside a strong and innovative curriculum, we instill academic soft skills – time management, self-advocacy, effective study habits and self-discipline (to name a few) – that will help students meet and exceed their goals.

We’re constantly evaluating our methods, technology and programs in order to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment. Our objective is not to prepare students to face the world of today, but to thrive in the unknowns of the future. Flexibility, adaptability and self-evaluation are key in this endeavor.

Moreover, at GWA, every student belongs.

Our small class sizes offer increased individual attention; teachers have the opportunity to get to know their students, and they’re able to uncover the talents and individual gifts that make each child unique.

Whether your child desires a college experience close to home or aspires to the Ivy League, we have a dedicated teacher base to help every student achieve his or her goals and dreams.
