Admissions & Enrollment
Q: What grades does GWA serve?
A: George Walton Academy serves students from K3 through 12th grade, providing a continuous and supportive educational experience. If your child is three years old and potty trained by August 1 of the school year you are applying, then you are eligible. We begin testing in K4.
Q: How do I apply for admission?
A: Families can start the application process online via the GWA website. Applications typically include submission of previous school records, teacher recommendations, grades, and an admissions interview and assessment, depending on grade level.

Q: Is there a deadline for applications?
A: GWA has rolling admissions, but it’s recommended to apply early, as spaces in certain grades can fill quickly. We do accept students as a mid-year transfer.
Q: Are there entrance assessments or testing?
A: Yes. Depending on the grade level, applicants may be required to complete academic assessments and participate in an interview.
Q: Are scholarships or financial aid available?
A: GWA offers need-based financial aid and merit-based scholarships. Families are encouraged to apply early to be considered.
Academics
Q: What curriculum does GWA follow?
A: GWA offers a college-preparatory curriculum with a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, honors classes, and a focus on critical thinking, character development, and academic excellence.
Q: What is the student-to-teacher ratio?
A: GWA maintains small class sizes to ensure individualized attention and personalized learning experiences.
Q: Are there programs for gifted or advanced students?
A: Yes. GWA offers advanced and honors courses, along with AP classes and enrichment opportunities tailored to students’ strengths. We also offer the BARK in lower school, which is our enrichment program.
Q: Does GWA support students with learning differences?
A: GWA strives to provide a supportive environment and individualized attention. Families are encouraged to discuss specific needs during the admissions process.
Extracurriculars & Athletics
Q: What extracurricular activities are offered?
A: Middle and upper school students can participate in clubs, sports, band and more! Lower school students can participate in our afterschool Beyond the Bell classes.
Q: Does GWA have sports programs?
A: Yes. GWA offers a variety of sports teams including football, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, cross country, track, and more, starting in lower school.
Q: Are arts programs available?
A: Absolutely. GWA has programs in visual arts, theater, music, and performance, encouraging creativity alongside academics.

Q: How does GWA involve families?
A: GWA encourages parent involvement through volunteering, events, communication, and participation in school initiatives.
Q: Are there opportunities to visit the campus?
A: Yes! GWA hosts Open Houses, campus tours throughout the year for interested families and Coffee & Connections events during the school day. These events offer comprehensive information about our school, provide for campus tours and give prospective families a chance to meet faculty, staff, and students.
Tuition & Logistics
Q: How much is the tuition?
A: Tuition varies by grade level. Families can view current tuition rates on the
Affording GWA page or contact the admissions office for details.
Q: Is transportation available?
A: GWA provides bus service for students in certain areas; families should contact the school for route information. Currently we support Covington and Loganville.
Q: What are the school hours?
A: School hours vary by division (Lower, Middle, Upper School). Extended care options are available for younger students. Lower School starts first period at 7:50 a.m. and carpool starts between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The school day ends at 3:05 p.m. for middle and upper school.
Our Early Dawgs and Aftercare programs provide flexibility for working families. All students may be dropped off at 7 a.m. (no fee) and K4–5th grade students may stay in supervised care until 6 p.m. (hourly fee applies).
