Middle School Mathematics Teacher

George Walton Academy (GWA) seeks a creative and engaging Middle School Mathematics teacher who demonstrates a love of middle school students, a passion for teaching and learning, a growth mindset, and a commitment to excellence in line with the mission and vision of the school.  GWA is an independent, Pre-K-12, independent, college-preparatory school located on 61 beautiful acres in Monroe, Georgia, less than one hour from the state capitol of Atlanta.

  • Stay current on latest research in education and employ evidence-based practices to facilitate active learning and deep conceptual understanding

  • Demonstrate an approachable, consistent, transparent, supportive and good-humored posture

  • Communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and individuals inside and outside the school

  • Regularly reflect on teaching practice and seek feedback for growth from colleagues

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full load of courses at the middle school level

  • Design and implement engaging, student-centered, and age-appropriate learning experiences with attention to individual student needs and differentiation

  • Collaborate with colleagues within and across disciplines and grade levels to promote interdisciplinary and cross-curricular teaching and learning

  • Use varied instructional strategies based on the needs and interests of the students

  • Establish and maintain open and effective lines of communication with all students, parents, faculty, and staff

  • Create and sustain a positive classroom culture based on the mission and values of the school

  • Monitor student growth and progress and maintain accurate and timely records 

  • Participate in professional learning opportunities within and beyond GWA

  • Serve as an advisor to a small cohort of middle school students

  • Actively and enthusiastically support the life of the school outside of the classroom

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Experience working with middle school students

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
