Lower School Music Teacher

Position: Lower School Music Teacher
The Lower School Music Teacher will teach general music classes for all students in K3-4th and lead chorus in 5th grade. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, able to work both independently and collaboratively, and effectively teach music to multiple grade levels. GWA seeks a teacher who is innovative and creative with curriculum and cultivates a love for music in all students, regardless of ability or previous experience.
FLSA Status: Exempt, fulltime and 10 months
Reports to: Lower School Division Head and will coordinate closely with the Fine Arts Department Chair
Broad Responsibilities:
• Inspire a love of and appreciation for music in our students.
• Design and implement creative, engaging, and innovative music lessons.
• Participate as an active, collaborative, and positive team member within the school community as a whole.
• Foster an understanding and application of best practices in music education.
• Develop and showcase the talents of students and generate wide appreciation among the student body for music.
• Demonstrate effective management of students in the classroom and in Lower School productions.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Teach general music courses for Lower School grade levels K3-4th grade and chorus in 5th grade.
• Serve as musical director of grade level musical productions and division wide events.
• Rotating carpool and lunchroom duty.

Desired Training and Work Experience:
• A master’s degree in music education is preferred, but qualified candidates with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education or related field will also be considered.
• A demonstrated, successful experience as a music teacher, preferably in an independent school environment.
Assessment: Performance of this job will be assessed annually.
Salary: Commensurate with work experience and skills.
