George Walton Academy (GWA) was founded in 1969 by a group of citizens desiring to establish an independent school that provided quality education in a college-preparatory environment. Enrollment began with 80 confirmed students and has grown over the next fifty years to reach approximately 750 students for the 2022-2023 school year. GWA is the oldest and most established private school in Walton County, Georgia, and surrounding areas with students attending from 15 different counties. The school’s motto – Virest Acquirit Eudo (“We gain strength by continuing”) – has provided for a mission rooted in continuing the legacy of the original founders of the school – providing a quality education in a college- preparatory environment.

The Head of School Search Committee and the Board of Trustees seek an effective leader and manager, as well as an innovative educator who embraces the school’s longstanding mission, appreciates the school’s core values, and who can help build upon our over fifty-year foundation while continuing to ensure that the school provides a challenging academic environment that allows the students to grow and explore as students and individuals.
