Computer Science Teacher

George Walton Academy seeks a full or part-time engaging, energetic Computer Science teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Reporting to the Associate Head of School for Academics, the teacher will work closely with the Middle School Technology teacher and Upper School faculty, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to create interdisciplinary and engaging experiences for students.

Responsibilities

Teach six classes and possess the ability and skills to successfully teach computer science, to include coding, programming, robotics and computer science principles.

Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school.

Observe, evaluate, and assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth.

Possess comfort working with students as an advisor.

Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom.

Communicate openly, timely and supportively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress.

Exceptional Candidates Will

Show proficiency with at least two programming languages, ideally Python and Java.

Have experience or a willingness to learn robotics and lead a student robotics team .

Demonstrate an approachable, consistent, transparent, supportive and good-humored posture.

Communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and individuals inside and outside the school.

Demonstrate a passion for sharing best practice pedagogy in the field, especially inquiry based curricula.

Be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning.

Possess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and vision.

Possess international experience, either through teaching, working, or studying.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred

3+ years of teaching (or related) experience, preferably within independent schools

Experience with a broad range of instructional practices

Exceptional written and oral communication skills
