Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do is a Martial Art that is about defending and keeping oneself from getting hurt. It is also about focus, discipline, balance, respect, and confidence. It also improves flexibility and is an active cardio workout.
When: Begins Tuesday, August 21, once per week throughout the year
First-Fourth grade: 3:30-4:30
Fifth grade and up: 4:30 to 5:30
Cost: $60 per month, plus the cost of uniform ($30)
The GWA Guitar Club provides the opportunity for students to learn to play guitar from beginner to advanced levels. Classes are grouped for Lower school students from grades three to five and middle/upper school grades six to 12. Some smaller sized instruments are available for use, but it is preferable for students to use their own instruments.
When: August 15 - December 5, once per week
Third-12th grade lessons available
Cost: $250 per semester
Encourages, inspires, mentors and teaches your young person the self-confidence needed to become a contributing member of the community. During this 10 week program, your child will learn the seven ingredients of a great introduction, self-esteem, confidence building, first impressions, meeting and greeting, eye contact, handshakes, confident leadership voice, table manners, setting the table, and line dances (including Fox Trot, Cha Cha, and Shag).
When: Begins in November
Fifth, sixth, and seventh graders invited, 30 students max
Cost: $300 for 10 weeks
Musical Theater Camp
ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME! Participants will learn about the main components for creating a quality theatrical performance. Students will explore acting, dance, improvisation, monologue work, stage combat, singing and more. Parents are invited to attend a short performance during our final session.
When: Begins September 10, three-week session
Using iPads and the popular creative sandbox game Minecraft, students will have a blast working together to build houses, castles, and many other items in a 3D world. Participants will learn and practice concepts and skills such as Teamwork, Architectural History, and Papercraft modeling.
When: August 16 - September 27
1st - 5th grade
Ready, Set, Sew
Students will learn the basics of sewing using a sewing machine, serger and hand-stitching techniques. Now is the chance to try your hand at something new. We will learn basics of sewing, adding trim, finishing seams, basic hand work and inserting zippers as we make an embellished, beaded pillow, plus a zippered cosmetic or marker bag and finally a canvas tote bag with pocket. Class to include use and instruction of all cutting and marking tools. (Scissors, cutting mats, rotary cutter, fabric markers and rulers), all high-quality canvas, glass beads and embellishments, home dec fabrics, threads, zippers and webbing, and all materials for all projects are included. Class is open to boys, girls, men and women! You will not need sewing skills, just a desire to learn and your sense of adventure. 4th grade and up
Stop Motion Camp
Let your imagination be your guide as you create stop-motion video stories from start to finish. You will learn how to create a concept, develop the idea with a storyboard, produce a set, and video record this unique type of storytelling. Each week brings a new focus and type of video.
When: September 11-October 16
Third- Fifth grade
The tennis class (session A) coached by Alex Lussi, is designed to introduce the fundamentals of the game as well as spark interest in a lifelong sport! The class will focus on technique, scoring, footwork, and teamwork!
When: Session A begins 9/5 and 9/6, session B begins 10/24 and 10/25. five weeks, once per week
3:15 Wednesdays third grade and up
3:15 Thursdays K4-second
Learn and practice the skills to compete on a team and in individual eSport matches. A fun after-school time of competition, teamwork, and skill-building using the fastest growing sport, video games.
When: October 4 - November 15
Local quilt professional Dale Shinneman will lead you through basic quilt planning, construction, quilting and finishing of a 52” x 64” quilt! Class to include use and instruction of all cutting and marking tools. (Scissors, cutting mats, rotary cutter, fabric markers and rulers), all quilt shop quality fabrics, threads, batting and binding plus computerized quilting and all general piecing, quilting and binding information. Class is open to boys, girls, men and women! You will need very basic sewing skills and a good sense of humor. If you have access to a sewing machine in good operating order, let's get you using it! Sixth grade and up
Inspirit Dance Company is excited to offer after-school dance classes at George Walton Academy. Taught on campus after school, classes will focus on ballet, jazz and musical theatre technique and performance.
