George Walton Academy seeks to enroll students of good moral character who will benefit from the challenge of a college-preparatory experience. Students are admitted on the basis of academic testing, school records and teacher recommendations.

Applications are accepted throughout the year, with K4, K5, 6th and 8th grades being considered as the primary entry points. Only students moving to the Atlanta area are admitted to Grade 12.

Families interested in George Walton Academy are encouraged to attend a Discover GWA event or arrange a personal tour with a member of our admissions team. Upcoming tours for the 2017-2018 school year are posted on the Discover GWA page.

To begin the admissions process, an application for admission must be completed online and the application fee paid either online or delivered to George Walton Academy. In addition to the application, the following items need to be on file before the applicant's name is considered:

  • Transcripts and vital records from current school
  • Two letters of recommendation from present teachers/administrators
  • Admissions Testing - All applicants for K4, K5 and all first grade applicants who did not attend our kindergarten program are required to take an admissions test. Testing dates for the 2017-2018 school year will be posted in October.
  • For students applying for grades 2-12, the results of a nationally standardized test taken within the last 12 months will be considered. If testing records are not available or if additional testing is necessary, a testing date will be scheduled through our Admissions Office. The time required for testing is approximately two hours.

Applicants are encouraged to have completed and returned all of the above information to George Walton Academy by the end of January for admission consideration for the upcoming school year.

All candidates and their files are reviewed by the Admissions Committee with care; considering not only what our school can offer each candidate, but also what contributions that candidate can make to GWA. This committee is composed of the Headmaster, Assistant Headmaster, Director of Admissions, Counselor and Teachers. The Headmaster has the final decision on admission of any applicant. In making an application to George Walton Academy, parents should understand that the decision of the Admissions Committee is made with the best interest of each candidate as a primary concern. George Walton Academy admits qualified students without regard to race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin.
