Lower School Lead Teacher

GWA is an independent, Pre-K3-12, independent, college-preparatory school located on 61 beautiful acres in Monroe, Georgia, less than one hour from the state capitol of Atlanta. 


George Walton Academy seeks an engaging, energetic Lower School lead teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Reporting to the Lower School Division Head, the teacher will work closely with his/her grade level and Lower School faculty, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to create interdisciplinary and engaging experiences for students.


Responsibilities
• Teach in a self-contained classroom in grades PK3-3rd grade or in a departmentalized structure in 4th and 5th grade.
• Intentional cross-curricular planning between classroom teachers and special area teachers.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in a thoughtful sequence and practiced in engaging contexts.
• Create and sustain a positive and nurturing classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school.
• Stay current on the latest research in elementary education.
• Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth.
• Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials, and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom.
• Communicate openly, timely, and supportively with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Possess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and vision
• Possess international experience, either through teaching, working, or studying
Qualifications and Required Screening
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education; Master’s Degree preferred
• 3+ years of elementary school teaching experience preferred
• Experience with a broad range of instructional practices
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Criminal background check
